Water Channel Dredging on Bendungan Melayu Reaches 50 Percent

Koja Sub-district's Water Resource Implementer Unit, North Jakarta is dredging the micro water channel and river along Jalan Bendungan Melayu, Tugu Selatan Urban Village. Now the progress reaches 50 percent.

Koja Sub-district's Water Resource Implementer Unit Head, Slamet Riyanto, said the dredging is being run at RW 01 up to RW 05 areas. This activity is part of responding urban village's request to anticipate inundation.

"The work has been running since September 2 ago, and now reaches 50 percent," he said, Wednesday (9/18).

The west micro water channel dredging is run along 300 meter with 100 cm of width and height. While dredging on Bendungan Melayu River is run along 200 meter with seven meter of width and 1.5 meter of height.

"We involve 10 personnel for micro and three personnel for river channel," he added.

His side also deploys one mini excavator to dredge the river channel, while the micro channel is dredged manually.

"Our personnel dredge 10 to 15 meter cubic of mud from each channel," he continued.

The mud, he stated, will be used as green belt land base in the area, and some will be dumped at the Ancol PLTU dumping site. The dredging for both channels is targeted to complete this month.

Meanwhile, Tugu Selatan Urban Village Head, Sukarmin, admitted area arrangement is being run at RW 01. Previously, the area was used by illegal street vendor that caused traffic congestion.

During the arrangement, he added, his side cooperated with Water Resource Sub-agency for dredging the channel, Bina Marga Sub-agency for constructing sidewalk, City Park and Forestry Sub-agency for making park, and up to Satpol PP to control the area.
